Summary of Experience

Over 20 years experience in development, promotion and application of technologies that enhance asset integrity in oil and gas operation onshore and offshore.  Work spanned the areas of corrosion, materials, inspection and maintenance solutions and optimization to operating assets, use of technology to gain competitive advantage and reduce development and operating cost of new projects in oil and gas, refinery and chemical industries.  Experience also includes promotion of the company and extensive overseas travel and work in North America, Europe, North Africa and Middle East and South America.  

Publications      

More than twenty five publications in the area of materials properties, fatigue crack growth, corrosion, failure analysis, integrity management and Oil & Gas operation. 

Editor of two-volume handbook on failure analysis case histories.

Professional Associations:

Active member of several NACE International committees (Chairman of TG 245 and TEG 077X, Chairman STG 31 and member of voting panel of TG 299 Sour Service Materials committee).  Former Vice Chairman - Materials and Testing Division and Chairman of Failure Analysis committee of ASM International.

Chaired several symposiums and workshops in ASM International, NACE International and the Society of Petroleum Engineers meetings.  Regularly teaches several technical courses.

 

 

 

Dr STRPHEN MAXWELL,

C Biol, PhD, BSc, FI Energy

Dr Maxwell is a microbiologist and

was awarded a PhD in Petroleum

Microbiology in 1984.  He is Technical Director of Commercial Microbiology Ltd a company he started in 1986 and which employs over 40 staff at its laboratories in Aberdeen, Scotland and Houston, Texas.

He has worked on oilfield microbiology projects worldwide and is a recognised expert in microbiologically influenced corrosion and reservoir souring.  Currently he is active in the development of molecular DNA tools for oilfields, laboratory models for souring and expert systems for interpreting and reporting oilfield bacteria monitoring data

Publications/Lectures

Over forty papers published in recognised books and journals.  Presented technical lectures and one, three and five day courses on industrial microbiology topics to audiences in the following countries: UK, Norway, The Netherlands, USA, Brazil, Malaysia, United Arab Emirates, Libya, Ecuador.

Gerd Zimmermann

Working in the field of Cathodic

Protection since 1967. Before he

retired in 2007, he was the Managing

Director of the German company SSS Korrosionsschutztechnik. In this position he was responsible for many national and international Cathodic Protection Projects for Pipelines, Offshore Structures, Well Casings, Plant Areas and Concrete Structures. One of his biggest project was between 1985 and1988 the EPC Contract from AGOCO, Benghazi, Libya for the protection of 580 well casings, 8 plant area and 1900 km of pipelines in Nafoora, Sarir and Hamada.

He is approved member of DVGW ( Deutsche Vereinigung des Gas- und Wasserfaches ) und FKK ( Fachverband Kathodischer Korrosionsschutz ).

Ø       Responsible for process chemical development, application and sales support to the Russian Oil & Gas Industry since 1983.

Ø       Worldwide expert on the chemical treatment of water injection systems and understanding oilfield reservoir souring problems.

Ø       Numerous training schools given in-house and to customers.

Ø       Technical audits carried out for strategic ‘Alliance’ customers to assist in the development of ‘Total Cost of Operations Savings’.

Ø       Demonstrated skills in understanding and providing technical and commercial solutions to oil and gas field corrosion and bio-corrosion problems.

Ø       Good working knowledge of a wide range of laboratory test methods and field monitoring equipment.

Ø       Responsible for developing innovative test methods for process chemical differentiation.

Active member of a number of national technical committees, eg the JIP (Joint Industrial Project) formed to understand, predict and prevent oilfield reservoir microbiological souring, NACE, ICOR and the Institute of Petroleum.

Numerous technical papers published.

Awarded patents for improved bio-corrosion control using bactericides.

Dr. FARAJ GARMAN

 

Ø       obtained his PhD in corrosion Science and Engineering from the University of Manchester, England in 1992. He has over twenty year of working experience in the oil sector, currently, working for Brega Petroleum Co. as a Chief Corrosion Engineer.  He has also spent seven years of teaching at university level and working as a part time consultant for a major industrial company.

Ø       Dr. Garman has also delivered many training courses for engineers from the industrial and oil sectors locally and abroad.

Ø       Dr. Garman has worked as a cathodic protection consultant for four years on cathodic protection installation contracts for the Great Man-made River project.

Ø       He is very active in research work, where his main area of interest is cathodic protection /prevention of steel in concrete. He has participated with research papers in major international corrosion events e.g. NACE conferences, the International Corrosion council (ICC) conferences and the Bahrain Society of Engineers’ conferences.

Ø       He had also participated in all the previous five conferences that the Libyan Corrosion Society (LCS) has organized and chaired the organizing committee of the fifth Libyan corrosion conference 2005.

Ø       Dr. Garman is member of NACE and the World Corrosion Organization (WCO) representing with other colleagues, the Libyan Corrosion Society.
